Chris Strevel

Chris Strevel – Executive Director

Chris first joined Tate’s Day Camp 1989 while attending the University of Tennessee. He thought he was only looking for a fun summer job, but quickly learned that he had found his career. After serving as a camp counselor, head counselor, and assistant director, he accepted the executive director role in 1993. In addition to directing summer camp, he is also the Executive Director of Programs for Tate's School. Chris is the past president of the American Camp Association, Heart of the South Section and has served on numerous committees and task forces with the national organization. He is currently serving on the national board of directors for the Camp Owners and Directors Association. Chris holds a communications degree from the University of Tennessee and has completed extensive training for camp professionals through the American Camp Association.

Marianne Langford

Marianne Langford – Office Manager

Marianne is entering her 19th year as the Office Manager for Tate's Day Camp. She is most often the warm voice that greets callers on the telephone and the first smiling face you see when entering the camp office. Marianne's experience and skill, combined with her devotion to the camp experience, lends itself to the family-like atmosphere that Tate's has become famous for. In addition to serving as Office Manager, Marianne is also the proud grandmother of five. (And all have attended Tate’s Day Camp!)

Jonathan Hodge

Jonathan Hodge – Program Director and Behavioral Specialist

Jonathan is beginning his eleventh summer at Tate's Day Camp. In addition to serving as Camp Program Director, he is a certified instructor with the Civilian Marksmanship Program and is a primary trainer for the tree climbing and marksmanship programs at Tate’s. In past years he has directed the preschool/kindergarten and primary aftercare programs at Tate's School. Jonathan graduated from Carson-Newman College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music Degree (vocal) along with a Religion minor. Jonathan also holds a master’s degree in Counseling and Behavioral Health. Jonathan is in the final stages of state licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and when not involved with Tate’s programs, he provides counseling and personal coaching services to adults, children and families.

Maggie Sewell

Maggie Sewell – Aquatics Director

Maggie is beginning her sixth year at Tate’s Day Camp and oversees the operation of our three swimming pools and pond area. She is certified in both Water Safety Instruction and Lifeguarding. Maggie is also trained to lead climbing tower, zip line, tree climbing, low ropes, archery, and marksmanship. During the school year, Maggie is the program director for the primary grades aftercare program at Tate’s School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee and is currently completing the prerequisites to apply for a Master's program in Occupational Therapy.

Matt Ternes

Matt Ternes – Counselor-In-Training Director

Matt is beginning his sixth summer at Tate's and serves as the CIT Director.  He also works in many other areas of camp and is trained to lead climbing tower, zip line, tree climbing, low ropes, archery and marksmanship. He is also a former staff member of our afterschool program at Tate's School. In May of 2013, Matt graduated from the University of Tennessee with a major in History and minor in Middle Education and Business. He is currently completing his teaching internship to obtain his Master's in Education.

Gretchen Johnson – Discovery Program Director

Gretchen is in her third summer at Tate's Day camp and has worked two years full-time in the Discovery Camp unit.  She currently serves as the preschool/kindergarten aftercare program director at Tate’s School. Gretchen is a junior at the University of Tennessee majoring in Special Education. She has been accepted into UT's Special Education Masters Program upon completion of her undergraduate degree.

Emily Brooks – Assistant Discovery Program
Director

Emily is beginning her 16th summer at Tate's Day Camp.  She started coming to camp when she was five years old and has been back every summer since. She was a CIT for two years, a part-time counselor for two years, and a full-time counselor for three years. Emily is currently attending East Tennessee State University pursuing her bachelor's degree in elementary education and will graduate in May of 2015.

Jasmine Thibou – Assistant Explorer Program Director

Jasmine is in her fourth summer at Tate's Day Camp. She started her Tate's journey in 2011 as the Coyote (9/10’s) counselor and after building on this experience in 2012, she was promoted in 2013 to the position of Team Leader for the 9/10 unit. Jasmine is a senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga majoring in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Hospitalized Care and is also pursuing a minor in Business.
