Chris Strevel

Chris Strevel – Executive Director

Chris first joined Tate’s Day Camp in 1989 while attending the University of Tennessee. He thought he was only looking for a fun summer job, but quickly learned that he had found his career. After serving as a camp counselor, head counselor, and assistant director, he accepted the executive director role in 1993. In addition to directing summer camp, he is also the Executive Director of Programs for Tate's School. Chris is the past president of the American Camp Association, Heart of the South Section and has served on numerous committees and task forces with the national organization. He is also a former national board member of the Camp Owners and Directors Association. Chris holds a Communications degree from the University of Tennessee and has completed extensive training for camp professionals through the American Camp Association.


Jonathan Hodge

Jonathan Hodge – Program Director and Behavioral Specialist

Jonathan is beginning his 12th summer at Tate's Day Camp. In addition to serving as Camp Program Director, he is a certified instructor with the Civilian Marksmanship Program and is a primary trainer for the tree climbing and marksmanship programs at Tate’s. In past years he has directed the preschool/kindergarten and primary aftercare programs at Tate's School. Jonathan graduated from Carson-Newman College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music Degree (vocal) along with a Religion minor. Jonathan also holds a master’s degree in Counseling and Behavioral Health. Jonathan is in the final stages of state licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and when not involved with Tate’s programs, he provides counseling and personal coaching services to adults, children and families.


Matt Ternes

Matt Ternes – Counselor-In-Training Director

Matt is beginning his seventh summer at Tate's and serves as the CIT Director.  He also works in many other areas of camp and is trained to lead climbing tower, zip line, tree climbing, low ropes, archery and marksmanship. He is also a former staff member of our afterschool program at Tate's School. In May of 2013, Matt graduated from the University of Tennessee with a major in History and minor in Middle Education and Business, and in May of 2014 he graduated with his Master’s Degree in Theory/Practice in Teaching. He is currently working as an 8th grade Science teacher at South-Doyle Middle School where he is also the head boys’ basketball coach.


Rachael Brantley

Rachael Brantley – Assistant Discovery Program Director

Rachael is in her fourth year at Tate's Day Camp, working one year at welcome center and two years in Discovery camp. She also currently holds the position of program director for the Preschool/Kindergarten program of Tate’s School Afterschool Program. Rachael currently attends the University of Tennessee and will graduate in May with a degree in Psychology. She is planning to further her education by obtaining her teaching license upon graduation.


Marianne Langford

Marianne Langford – Office Manager

Marianne is entering her 20th year as the Office Manager for Tate's Day Camp. She is most often the warm voice that greets callers on the telephone and the first smiling face you see when entering the camp office. Marianne's experience and skill, combined with her devotion to the camp experience, lends itself to the family-like atmosphere that Tate's has become famous for. In addition to serving as Office Manager, Marianne is also the proud grandmother of five. (And all have attended Tate’s Day Camp!)


Jordan Trent

Jordan Trent – Aquatics Director

Jordan is beginning her fourth year at Tate’s Day Camp. She has been on swim staff for each of the past three years, and this will be her first summer as Aquatics Director. Jordan will be supervising and maintaining our three swimming pools and the pond area as well as teaching swimming lessons in the mornings. She is Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. During the 2015 spring semester, Jordan served as the Program Director for the primary grades Afterschool Program at Tate’s School. She recently obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee and plans to continue her education in the fall by pursuing a Master’s degree and teaching licensure.


Emily Brooks

Emily Brooks – Discovery Program

Emily is beginning her 17th summer at Tate's Day Camp. She started coming to camp when she was five years old and has been back every summer since. She was a CIT for two years, a part-time counselor for two years, and a full-time counselor for three years. Emily is currently attending East Tennessee State University and will graduate this May with a degree in Elementary Education.


Jasmine Thibou

Jasmine Thibou – Assistant Explorer Program Director

Jasmine is beginning her fifth summer at Tate’s Day Camp. She has experience working with Explorer camp where she began as a 9/10’s counselor before taking on the role of Assistant Program Director – in which she is in her second year. Jasmine recently graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
