The Tate’s Day Camp Mission

Our Program

Girl Preparing to ZiplineThe success of our campers is centered on our age-specific groups, excellent staff, and our wide variety of activities. At Tate’s Day Camp, we provide traditional camp activities like swimming, arts & crafts, music, hands-on nature study, archery, boating, fishing, sports, games, and group initiative activities. Through hands-on activities and low counselor to camper ratios, camp builds self-esteem and provides an excellent opportunity for individual growth and maturity.

Different weekly themes help to keep camp exciting and fresh for our campers that come all summer. Girl with Blue Face PaintBecause of the wide variety of activities we offer, there is often not enough time for a camper to participate in all of them!

All campers are divided into age-specific groups so they can interact with others who are on their physical and emotional levels. For reasons of safety, the age group of the child determines many camp activities. (i.e. only 2nd graders and up participate in archery.)

Due to the structure of our program, all campers must be completely potty trained and at least age three by June 1st. Our young campers have a blast, but they must be fully qualified for their true camp experience.

Camp-Bonfire

Our modern 50+ acre camp facility includes many large buildings, a fishing pond, and three swimming pools. We have recreational fields, woods, archery & marksmanship ranges, climbing tower, zipline, group initiative course, campfire rings, outdoor amphitheater and natural areas for environmental study and exploration.

Camp Age Groups & Activities

Age Groups at a Glance

Discovery Camp | Ages 3 through entering 1st grade
A unique environment created precisely for our youngest campers. Children are placed into specific groups based on age/grade and participate in many camp activities under the close supervision of our nurturing counselors. The low camper-to-counselor ratio ensures that all campers receive the support and assurance they need for a successful camp experience. A sampling of activities includes swim instruction, arts and crafts, sing-alongs, sandbox play, outdoor games, nature activities, center play, zipline and hillside slide. Children entering the first grade also have the opportunity to go boating. All campers must be completely potty trained and at least age three by June 1. To provide a quality experience, we recommend all three-year olds attend a minimum of two or more weeks and we strongly recommend consecutive weeks.

Camp Counselor with Young Campers

Explorer Camp | Entering grades 2nd-5th
Explorer campers are always looking for fun and challenging experiences and we provide them! Campers are grouped by grade level with rising second and third graders together and rising fourth and fifth graders together. Excellent counselor role models provide supervision, guidance and encouragement. Due to the large variety of activities, explorer campers often get to choose their activities. Some of the activities include swimming, arts and crafts, archery, boating, zipline, nature study, group initiatives, outdoor games, sports, and more. Rising fourth graders, and older, have opportunities to sign up for the climbing tower, marksmanship, and our tree climbing program.

Adventure Camp | Entering grades 6th-8th
The ultimate in middle school-based camping. There are plenty of activities that vary by week including woodworking, drama, challenge games, sports, crafts, climbing tower, zipline, tree climbing and other options. But what really makes adventure camp so popular is the group bonding time, peer relationships and camaraderie with staff. Under the leadership of active staff role models, adventurers are a tight knit team and thrive on getting to choose their groups based on the weekly activities.

Counselor In Training Group

Counselor-In-Training | Entering grades 9th-10th
This leadership training program incorporates real life work experience into a fun and energetic camp environment. Through hands-on work, team building and problem solving, CITs learn life skills that they will keep forever. For complete CIT literature and registration/application information please CLICK HERE.
