We recently asked our 2017 Day Camp Leadership Team members a few questions to help you and campers get to know them a bit better in preparation for this coming summer!
Meet Matt Ternes!
Q: How many summers have you worked for Tate’s Day Camp?
A: “This will be my 8th summer working at Tate’s Day Camp.”
Q: What is your official job title?
A: “I am the CIT Director.”
Q: Can you explain your role this coming summer?
A: “I will be running the CIT (Counselor In-Training) program where I will be working closely with rising Freshmen and Sophomores in high school. The program is more than just training these high schoolers how to be a counselor at Tate’s, but we also focus heavily on leadership training (interviewing for a job, community service, servant leadership, etc.). I will also be working closely with the Discovery side of camp as that is where my high schoolers will be putting their training into practice with groups.”
Q: What do you enjoy most about Tate’s Day Camp?
A: “I love the culture at Tate’s Day Camp. I love that it offers kids a chance to not only have fun during the hot summer days, but also provides a haven where they are encouraged to try new things, step out of their comfort zone, be willing to let go and make mistakes, and grow in ways that they never could anywhere else.”
Q: Are you in school? If so, what are you studying and why?
A: “I am not in school, I teach school, currently teaching 5th grade (Math & Science) at Tate’s School.”
Q: What are you most excited about for this coming summer?
A: “I am most excited to work with our incredible Director team, our amazing staff, and, of course, my wife (also on the director team).”
