Here… Take My Slice of Pizza

It was lunch time in Kindergarten, and it was everybody’s favorite day – pizza. The teacher passed out the lunches and noticed that one little girl didn’t have a lunch. She was not on the sign up list for pizza, and she hadn’t brought her lunch from home.

No problem – it sometimes happens, so the teacher called up to the office to let them know that a child didn’t have a lunch. Usually when this happens, a kind lady in the office puts something together and takes it to the child.

The children started eating and some of the students noticed that the little girl didn’t have anything. A few of the children started giving her some of their lunch items that they didn’t particularly care for. Someone gave her a few crackers, another shared some grapes, and then a bright-eyed five year old named Molly said, “Here, have a slice of my pizza.” Now, if you know Molly then you know at her house that pizza and spaghetti are considered their own food groups because she loves them so much.

So – I ask the question, what would the world be like if everyone had the heart of that five year old and gave away something they valued to help someone else and expected absolutely nothing in return?

I’m proud of you Molly . . . not just because you genuinely care for others, not just because you’re a great student, and not just because you make the world a better place. I’m proud of you because you’re a terrific daughter.

As you and your sister Mary grow up, I pray that both of you will always have that sincere compassion to take care of others. I love you. -Daddy
